Macau casinos contribute USD 1.25B in taxes in Q1

(Macau).- Macau authorities collected as much as MOP10.11 billion (US$1.25 billion) in taxes from casino operations in the first quarter of 2023, the latest data from the government has revealed.

According to the Financial Services Bureau, it was up about 15.8 per cent in comparison with MOP8.73 billion in the same period of last year.
The taxes made in the three months to March also accounted for 19.88 per cent of the government estimate of MOP50.85 billion.
The figures were released one day after Macau reported its highest monthly gross gaming revenue in three years – about MOP14.72 billion for April.
Since January this year when the majority of Covid curbs were removed, the SAR has achieved accumulated gross revenue of MOP49.36 billion from gaming operators – a figure that is nearly 38 per cent of the government target of MOP130 billion for 2023.
